Hardware Innovations for Data Growth Challenges at Cloud-scale - Presented by Microsoft
Keeping up with the rapid growth of data, processing it and storing it at reasonable costs are very well documented challenges to all suppliers given the slow growth rates in storage capacities and performance. The major challenge is to engineer solutions that address these issues and work with the OCP community for the benefit of the entire ecosystem. Microsoft Azure will unveil innovations in the storage system to provide high-performance data compression algorithms that reduce costs and optimize overall performance.

OCP Infrastructure for Workload Optimization - Presented by Intel
Since the inception of OCP, the workloads and deployment models driving datacenter infrastructure have changed dramatically. Homogenous infrastructure is being replaced by workload optimized systems. This is driving a shift in datacenter infrastructure to support efficiency through techniques such as resource pooling and open management.  OCP board member and Intel Corporate Vice President, Jason Waxman will discuss how Rack Scale Design and Intel’s latest OCP contributions are enabling datacenter infrastructure to optimize for growing workloads such as AI.

Accelerating Infrastructure – together - Presented by Facebook
The Open Compute Project was started in 2011 to make datacenters more efficient, and help engineers collaborate, share their innovations, and develop common solutions to industry problems, faster. Recently, what's driving our biggest sources of inefficiency and demand has begun to shift. AI, machine learning, video transcode, and advances in network and data fabrics are exposing new problems and opportunities. Coincidentally, many of our systems are changing in fundamental ways. Our industry's engineers are working on these problems, but often in ways that fragment our resources and capacity to innovate, creating new forms of “Gratuitous Differentiation.” With our announcements in 2019, Facebook is seeking to provide platforms for new innovation around which our industry's engineers and other resources can converge. It is our hope that we can continue to grow a mass of developers towards these platforms, so that we can share our innovations, and you can share ours. Let's tackle these new challenges—new platforms, engineering efficiency, and datacenter efficiency—together.

Building Resiliency Through a Collaborative Ecosystem
As applications are migrating closer to the user and the data, data center architectures are becoming more complicated. To deliver these complex edge networks, the ecosystem needs to change the way in which it is working together.  The edge’s unique challenges can only be fully addressed by a collaborative environment that encompasses all the key partners – physical infrastructure vendors, system integrators, IT equipment manufacturers, managed service providers, and the customer.  Further, as data lakes with massive amounts of normalized data are created, we can take that collaborative environment to the next level by developing open APIs.  Implementing open APIs and allowing 3rd parties to access the data lakes enables the deployment of open-sourced applications and strengthens the edge ecosystem.  This presentation will highlight three keys to achieving a resilient edge:
  • A collaborative ecosystem that includes the customer is necessary
  • Cloud-based software is imperative to managing the edge
  • Resiliency is strengthened through open APIs for data lakes allowing open-sourced applications

Adopt OCP from AI with Agility and Speed - Presented by Inspur
For hyperscale data centers, OCP members are involved in helping to optimize racks to better handle the intensive, data-driven applications such as machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI).  As open community is committed to creating open hardware solutions working with data centers and their customers, competition is based on a vendor’s ability to respond to industry demand and emerging technologies that bring platforms to market more quickly and efficiently.  VP of Inspur Group, John Hu, will discuss how Inspur embraces openness and the key aspects in driving OCP based AI adoption, as well as how has Inspur’s JDM model deployed open sourced AI solutions with agility, speed and efficiency, to both cloud and enterprise customers.  John will also share Inspur’s new contributions to OCP in 2019.

OCP Adoption in Telco Ecosystem
The adoption of OCP hardware & software in the Broadband Access space by Service Providers in joint collaboration with ONF, System Integrators and the open-source community has picked up pace over the last year. As these solutions enter field-trails and production at Tier-1 network operators, AT&T would like to invite carriers around the globe to participate in this highly beneficial model of open-spec hardware plus open-source software development, curated by SPs, architecturally guided by ONF, and co-developed by the community. AT&T will also discuss how the work in the OCP Telco group and at ONF has accelerated deployment of new technology and enhanced competitiveness for their business. ONF will then highlight two specific solutions - Trellis and SEBA - built on OCP products for the broadband access market, that fall under ONF's CORD (Central Office Re-architected as a Datacenter) umbrella of projects. And finally, the Flex Cloud and Communication Solutions group will describe their contributions toward integration and automated validation of ONF solutions built on OCP platforms.
