Data plane acceleration is an essential requirement for building a high performance Telco Cloud. Nokia and Mellanox have teamed up to create an integrated OCP compliant solution supporting "switch on NIC" OVS offloading. Nokia's AirFrame openEDGE servers now includes the Mellanox OCP Compliant ConnectX-5 NIC. The ConnectX-5 NIC has an embedded switch which enables orders of magnitude improvement in throughput for cloud networking protocols such as VXLAN. Nuage Networks has developed an SDN solution which works on this platform enabling automated programming of the NIC and providing VIM integration with OpenStack, K8s, and other cloud management systems. This review session covers the design, performance and benefits (functional and economic) of this solution.
