How ONF Builds Solutions on OCP Products for Telco/Cableco Broadband Access

Over the last 3 years, ONF has been building open-source solutions on top of OCP accepted hardware and software for the telco/cableco broadband access market. As these solutions are now in field-trails and production at Tier-1 network operators, ONF would like to introduce these solutions to the larger OCP community. This talk covers two specific ONF solutions - Trellis and SEBA. Trellis is a multi-purpose leaf-spine fabric designed for NFV & access/edge applications. It is SDN-based, built with bare-metal switches and open-source software. Trellis builds an extensive feature set on top of OCP accepted hardware from EdgeCore with several ASICs from Broadcom including Trident, Tomahawk and Qumrans, as well as OCP accepted software like ONIE and ONL. Trellis is currently deployed in production. SEBA, or SDN Enabled Broadband Access, is a self-contained pod solution for disaggregated Passive Optical Networks (PONs). It was created to provide an architecture pattern and reference implementation for developing solutions for carrier broadband access. In particular, the reference implementation is built on an OCP approved specification for AT&T's 16 port XGS-PON vOLT with hardware from EdgeCore. SEBA is currently deployed in field-trials. Both SEBA and Trellis are completely open-source and fall under ONF's CORD (Central Office Re-architected as a Datacenter) umbrella of projects.
